I spent some time protesting in Keene, NH today at the side of a round-about.
Some folks honked…or waved…some offered a thumbs-up. They each got a nod and/or a fist of resistance. Some folks flipped me off…they got a kiss blown at them–quite frankly, I think they are humans that clearly need more love in their world.
The moment that really touched me today, though, was the woman that approached me as I stood at the round-about. She had seen me, then parked at the Post Office, and walked up to me on the grass so that she could speak with me.
She thanked me for putting myself out in public…for making a statement. She thanked me for acknowledging the feminist issues that I was defending, as I stood there at a busy intersection in Southwestern New Hampshire on an April Saturday Morning. We both got a bit misty-eyed acknowledging how far backwards our rights have gone over the last few years. And we both vowed to continue to do what we each could do to fight that back-slide. I will keep that exchange close to my heart as I continue to resist.
At noon each Saturday, from 12 to 1 pm there is a standing protest on Central Square in Keene. So after my time on the the round-about, I walked up to Central Square and joined my fellow protesters. Wearing the cloak…wearing the bonnet…marching slowly, by myself up Main Street…is an experience. Your vision is constrained by the bonnet. Your red cape is a beacon that captures attention.
And, you realize how close our society really is to becoming a Christian Nationalist society. People like Secretary Kegsbreath, quoting Pulp Fiction rather than the actual Bible, are deigning to dictate how we, as women, move about and interact in our “free society”.
The time to resist is NOW. How you choose to resist is a personal choice. If you wishto join the Handmaid Army of N.H. please email us at anonymaidnh@proton.me
